Coach Acree was born and raised in Atlanta, GA. He is the product of a hard-working, single mother, a lot of personal drive and a ton of community support! Coach’s love for basketball started when he was in the 7th grade. Living in the inner city of Atlanta, he was able to see what a life of violence resulted in and he knew that this was not the life that he wanted for himself. Basketball allowed him to stay out of trouble and took him away from influences that were not positive. Thankfully, he had a very loving and supportive mother who saw his passion and supported him fully. This taught Coach Acree the importance of a supportive upbringing at a young age.
Today, coach is the father of two beautiful girls, Aniya (7) and Acari (1), and being a girl dad is one of his biggest, on-going successes. The father in him serves as a motivational drive to see all children thrive! During high school, coach got an opportunity to play ball at a private, predominantly white school. This meant he had to leave his comfort zone at Washington Highschool in west Atlanta and travel over an hour away for schooling and basketball opportunities. There were many mentors and coaches who made sure that Coach Acree and his mother had support when it came to commuting to and from school. The private school education and basketball experience that coach received allowed him to develop an amazing skillset that led to college ball scholarships! Coach played college basketball at Methodist University, Reinhardt College and Clayton State University. Coach Acree graduated college with his degree in History and certificate in teaching. He knew as a college student that his innate passion was helping kids succeed, not only in basketball, but in life. In the words of coach, “for me, knowing who you are, where you came from and where you can go is the #1 goal.” Coach Acree, his wife and two beautiful daughters now reside south of Atlanta and are still committed to the success of the youth, family and the black community! #girldad #certifiedteacher #basketball #theacreeaffect |
